The Wadala TT Police in Mumbai have arrested a 30-year-old man who had been absconding for nearly a decade in connection with a molestation and assault case registered in 2016.
The accused, identified as Sohel Niyaz Ahmed Khan, was wanted under Sections 354 and 325 of the Indian Penal Code.
According to the police, Khan had evaded arrest since the case was registered. A charge sheet was subsequently filed, and efforts were ongoing to trace him. Acting on surveillance inputs, the police retrieved crime records and discreetly tracked the accused through his relatives and associates.

A breakthrough came when an informant tipped off the police that Khan was selling mobile phone covers on a footpath at Masjid Bunder. Based on this information, a police team laid a trap at Masjid Bunder and in his hometown of Sangamnagar in Wadala. The accused was finally located in Wadala, where his identity was confirmed through Aadhaar verification.
Khan was taken into custody and his father was informed about the arrest.
The operation was carried out by the crime and detection team under the guidance of senior officer Manish Awale, police said.
