As the city gears up for the New Year's Eve, a caller was traced and nabbed by the city cops for allegedly making a hoax call threatening bomb blasts in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/new-year-2023-security-beefed-up-special-trains-in-mumbai-23263188" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai</a>, the police sources said.&nbsp;
According to the police, an FIR was registered on Friday night after a man called the city police's control room and informed them about the bomb threat.
"He insisted on the control room to provide him with the Anti-Terrorist Squad's (ATS) contact number and said that he had information regarding bombs in the city," sources said.
Sources said, the call was made at around 8:50 pm on Friday. He told the police control room that a person has left <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/1600-workers-at-aligarh-muslim-university-on-strike-over-non-payment-of-salary-23263202" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Uttar Pradesh</a> with some weapons and RDX (to carry out blasts). He then told the control room official to share with him the contact number of the ATS and then hung up.
He told the control room that bomb blasts would allegedly take place at some places in the city on New Year's eve, sources added.
Investigations revealed that the caller, who had identified himself as Azhar but his actual name was Narendra Kavale. He had made a call from a mobile number. He was arrested from the Dharavi area for making a hoax call and providing false information to the police, an official said.

A case was registered under sections 182 (False information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person), 505 (1) ( Whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumour or report) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, the official said.
The Mumbai Police have tightened security ahead of the New Year celebrations in the city. A total number of over 10,000 police constables, 1,500 officers, 25 Deputy Commissioners of Police and seven Additional Commissioners of Police have been deployed. 46 platoons of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), three units of the Riot Control Police (RCP) and 15 Quick Response Teams (QRT) have been reportedly deployed in Mumbai to avert any untoward incident.
