Kurar police have busted a gang masquerading as packers and movers that allegedly targted television actress Khushi Chaudhary and fled with her household valuables. While one gang member has been arrested, two others remain absconding, police said.

According to the complaint filed by Neha Nareshkumar Malik alias Khushi Chaudhary, 27, the accused allegedly lured her with attractive relocation charges for transporting her household goods to her native place Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, but instead vanished with her belongings, including valuable antiques, boutique items, paintings and personal effects.

Online trust, offline fraud

The actress contacted ‘Infield Logistic Packers and Movers’ in December 2025 after finding the company through an online platform. The firm’s owner, Vaibhav Singh, gained her confidence by quoting reasonable shifting charges.

On January 4, 2026, workers arrived at her Malad East residence, packed her belongings including clothes, makeup kits, shoes, bags, paintings and mirrors into 18 boxes, and issued a bill of Rs 11,700, which she paid online via QR code.

However, the next day, Singh sent a revised bill of Rs 25,506, claiming the cost had increased due to the weight and size of the consignment. When the actress questioned the discrepancy and asked for her goods to be returned, the accused allegedly refused and began giving evasive responses, raising her suspicion. Despite repeated follow-ups, the goods were neither delivered nor returned, prompting the actress to approach the police.

A police officer said, “Based on technical surveillance and investigation, Kurar police traced the stolen goods to a godown in the Sakinaka-Chandivli area.” A raid was conducted on January 28, 2025, leading to the recovery of the actress’s household items and the arrest of Vijay Ramavatar Pal, 40, a labourer by profession and an active member of the gang, said the officer.

The items were returned to the actress in Malad on Monday (February 2, 2026), said police. Police said Pal was directly involved in packing and transporting the goods from the actress’s residence. Prime accused Vaibhav Singh and another accomplice are currently on the run, said police.

The investigation was conducted under the guidance of DCP Mahesh Chimate, senior inspector Sanjeev Tavde, API Dayanand Pawar, PSI Avinash Nalawade HC Ajay Kadam, Tanaji More, constables Sagar Pawar, Ramesh Khandvi, Shankar Sonawane, Baban Rathod, Shrikant Gore, Santosh Phadtare, Ganesh Satpute, and woman constable Shilpa Patil.

‘Mumbai Police ko salaam’

Speaking to mid-day, Chaudhary thanked the Mumbai Police for swift action. “Mumbai Police ko salaam. Kurar police worked tirelessly to expose the gang and safely recover all my belongings. Many of the items were extremely valuable and irreplaceable,” said the actress. She also urged citizens to verify the credentials of packers and movers before availing such services, warning that fraudsters are increasingly misusing online platforms to target unsuspecting victims.
