A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) of Mumbai Police was booked for allegedly sexually assaulting the wife of his friend, a police constable, in Nagpur district of Maharashtra, an official said on Sunday, reported the PTI.

A case was registered at Kondhali police station against the sub-inspector under sections about sexual assault of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He is attached to the Vinoba Bhave Nagar police station in Mumbai, according to the PTI.

According to police, the victim and her husband are residents of Gadchiroli.

The FIR stated that the PSI sexually assaulted the woman during a family picnic at a resort near Kondhali in February. He allegedly repeated the act on May 13 at the house of the victim in Hingna in Nagpur district, as per the PTI.

The complainant remained silent as she and her husband are childhood friends, police said. She recently confided in her husband and lodged an FIR, the official said, adding that a team has been dispatched to Mumbai to arrest the accused PSI, the news agency reported on Sunday.

Man with upset stomach falls to death from 18th floor of Mumbai building while defecating

A 52-year-old man with an upset stomach died after falling from the 18th floor of a building here on Sunday while defecating from the edge of a shaft, an official said, reported the PTI.

The incident occurred at the 18-storey Matoshree Sadan building, Wadala, in central Mumbai, said the official from RAK Marg police station.

The man, a resident of the high-rise, had been suffering from dysentery for the past few days.

He had gone to the top floor for some work when he may have lost control of his bowels, the police suspect, according to the PTI.

He sat to defecate on the edge of a shaft near a lift but lost his balance and plunged into a pit on the ground floor, the official said.

After being alerted, police reached the spot and got the man out of the pit with the help of fire brigade personnel. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead, the official said.

Police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and a probe is underway, he added, as per the PTI.
