Mumbai professor alleges dowry harassment, valuables worth Rs 1.72 crore misappropriated

A 34-year-old assistant professor at a reputed management institute in Vile Parle has accused her husband and his family of dowry-related harassment and misappropriating valuables worth Rs 1.72 crore. The Bhandup police have registered a case against her husband, parents-in-law and sister-in-law though no arrests have been made yet.
Alleged demands
According to the complaint, the woman, who married a Mumbai-based man in November 2024 through an arranged match, was allegedly taunted over gifts exchanged during the wedding. She claimed her in-laws demanded a car, a luxury watch and money for a house in Mumbai, besides seeking access to Rs 50 lakh transferred to her account by her parents. The woman said the situation worsened when she struggled to find employment after relocating to Mumbai.
