A robbery attempt at a jewellery shop in Ghatkopar West on Wednesday morning sparked panic after the accused fired a gunshot before escaping the scene.
According to local residents, the incident occurred when the shop owner was unlocking the store’s safety grill to begin the day’s work. At that moment, an unidentified man attempted to rob the store. The jeweller raised an alarm, prompting nearby pedestrians to rush toward the shop.
Startled by the commotion, the accused fired a shot into the air and fled the spot.
“I heard a gunshot. At first, I thought it was firecrackers, but when I saw a large crowd gathered near the jewellery shop, I realised it was a shooting incident,” said a local resident.
A forensic team later arrived at the scene to collect evidence. Ghatkopar Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, along with provisions of the Arms Act.
