Seven people including an employee of a trader from Malad were arrested by the Mumbai Police for allegedly robbing a foreign exchange trader of Rs 75 lakh late last month, a Mumbai police official said on Monday, reported the PTI.

According to the police, on August 28, three motorcycle-borne men had allegedly robbed two bags, containing Rs 50 lakh and Rs 25 lakh, from two employees of the trader, who operates his foreign exchange business in Malad, the official said, according to the PTI.

"The two employees were carrying to bags to the house of the trader's business partner. The robbery, in which the accused brandished a knife, took place close to his home in Marve Road area," he said.

"After a police case was registered, a probe zeroed in on Prateek Bhojane (30), one of the two employees who was robbed that day. It was found that he had hatched the plan and had got some persons with criminal backgrounds to carry out the robbery," the official.

Apart from Bhojane, police managed to arrest six others identified as Akshay Gaikwad, Kunal Gaikwad, Naresh Rathod, Chhagan Gaikwad, Dinesh Indre and Vinod Anchalkhamb, he said, as per the PTI.

"Indre helped Bhojane with the planning. All seven were held from Mumbai, Lonavala, Pune, Nashik, Raigad and Jalna. More arrests are likely based on their interrogation. Of the looted money, Rs 15 lakh has been recovered and efforts are on to trace the rest," the Malad police station official said.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, the police in Maharashtra's Palghar district have arrested two men in connection with eight cases of theft and recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 10 lakh from them, an official said on Monday, reported the PTI.

The MBVV police last week apprehended Ramesh alias Ramya Vijaykumar Jaiswal (46) and Vishal alias Balu Vishnu Kashyap (28), both residents of neighbouring Mumbai, senior inspector Pramod Badakh told the PTI.

The duo allegedly robbed a 65-year-old man at Phoolpada of Virar and decamped with his golden jewellery last month, he said.
Following the arrests, the police recovered 166 gms of stolen gold jewellery and other valuables worth Rs 10 lakh, the official said.

The duo were allegedly involved in eight similar crimes in the limits of MBVV, Mumbai and Thane which included, Virar, Manickpur, Central, MFC, Borivali Railway, Malad and Dindoshi police stations, he said.
