A 60-year-old building watchman in Tardeo has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a nine-year-old boy inside the residential premises. The incident occurred on Sunday and came to light after the child informed his family.
Police said the boy was playing in the compound when the watchman approached him near an isolated corner near the meter room. The accused allegedly hugged the child, pulled his cheeks forcefully, and tried to bite them, causing the minor to panic. According to the complaint, the watchman then took the child to the meter room and shut the door from inside, where he is suspected of having touched the boy inappropriately.
The child returned home and told his parents, who took him to JJ Hospital for a medical examination before approaching the police. Tardeo police and the detection staff traced the accused to his locality and arrested him on Sunday night. Officers said preliminary checks show he has no prior criminal record.
Police have recorded the father’s statement and inspected the spot. Investigators are verifying whether the accused had similarly approached other children or if residents had earlier raised concerns.
Senior officers said the family’s swift action ensured a prompt police response. The accused has been booked under relevant sections related to offences against children, and further investigation is underway.
