Three people were arrested in Mumbai on Thursday for allegedly blackmailing and extorting Rs 3.3 crore in two years from a Kolhapur-based businessman.
The accused have been identifed as Lubna Wazir alias Sapna, Anil Chaudhary alias Akash, and Manish Sodi.
A woman was used as a honeytrap to falsely implicate the 64-year-old businessman in a fake sexual assault case in 2019, the police said as reported by <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/woman-used-as-honeytrap-to-loot-bizman-of-rs-3-3cr-3-of-her-aides-held-in-mumbai/articleshow/87807251.cms" rel="nofollow">Times of India</a>.
Back in 2019, the businessman was in Mumbai and was staying at a five-star hotel. That is when Sapna, Anil and Monica met him in his hotel room.
According to the report, Sapna and Anil left the hotel, leaving Monica in the room with the businessman. They claimed that they were in a hurry and left the hotel. As soon they returned, Monica was partly undressed. Sapna immediately started to shoot a video of Monica in that state with the businessman in the room. She then created a scene and started yelling that Monica was being &lsquo;sexually assaulted&rsquo; by the businessman.
The businessman was threatened even after he tried settle the matter by paying up. He was shown the video of him and the 42-year-old woman, Monica Bhagwan alias Dev Choudhary.

&ldquo;They demanded Rs 10 crore to settle the matter,&rdquo; said a police officer according to the report.
The accused were extorting money from the businessman until recently. The trio had demanded Rs 5 crore, and threatened him of uploading the video on social media platforms.
Under pressure, the businessman got suicidal and observing his unusual behaviour, his son asked him what the matter was and later approached the police.
According to the police, the businessman had paid a total of Rs 3.3 crore in two years.
The accused were caught red-handed when they were accepting Rs 17 lakh from the businessman.
