A Nigerian national named Abdul Razzaq Hassan was nabbed in Navi Mumbai carrying 55 grammes of mephedrone worth Rs 5.5 lakh. The arrest occurred at a housing society in Kharghar's Sector 35 after authorities received a tip-off, reported PTI.

The Kharghar police confiscated the unlawful material and filed a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Investigations into the accused's peddling network are ongoing, the PTI report stated.

According to the report, the arrest reflects law enforcement's ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking in the region.

The Thane Police in Maharashtra destroyed a drug manufacturing and trafficking network in the Thane district, resulting in the arrest of eight people. During the raid, the police confiscated Rs 55.7 lakh worth of mephedrone, stated an agency report.

According to the report, the raid began with the arrest of Thane residents Jayesh Pradeep Kambli and Vignesh Vinayak Shirke, who were discovered in possession of 78.8 grammes of mephedrone. Ahmed Mohammad Shafi Sheikh and Shabbir Abdul Karim Sheikh, drug suppliers from Vasai, were arrested as a result of subsequent investigations.

The police later detained Mohammad Rasi Hanif Ansari and Mohammad Amir Amantullah Khan in Mumbai. Khan's arrest gave critical information that led to the detention of Manoj Patil alias Bala, who was escaping authorities after jumping parole in Gujarat. Bala was captured in Raigad district, along with his partner Dinesh Devji Mhatre, the report added.

The recovered items contained mephedrone worth Rs 55.73 lakh, as well as raw materials and chemicals worth Rs 59,000 required in the drug's manufacturing process.

In a separate incident, Palghar Police apprehended two people, including a 60-year-old woman, after seizing drugs worth roughly Rs 12 lakh from them in Palghar district. Bajrang Suresh Kasbe and Purnima Raju Rathod were apprehended near a school in Nalasopara after police received a tip. The duo was discovered in possession of 105 grammes of MD and 3.4 grams of brown sugar, both obtained from Ankush Gava of Nalasopara, another agency report stated.

Kasbe and Rathod have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), the report added.
