The officials on Tuesday said that a notorious gangster, wanted in various cases in Jammu and Kashmir, was arrested from Worli in central Mumbai, reported news agency PTI.

Based on the specific information provided by the Jammu Kashmir Police, Royal Singh was apprehended on Tuesday morning. Officials said the accused in multiple cases of murder, extortion, and narcotics smuggling has been hiding in Mumbai for the last couple of days, reported PTI.

A team of Jammu police has been sent to Mumbai to take Royal Singh in custody, a Mumbai Police official said, adding that he was absconding from Jammu since a case was registered against him under the Arms Act, reported PTI.

His name cropped up in connection with the murder of gangster Rajesh Dogra, following which a case was also registered against him at Mohali, the official said, reported PTI.

Royal Singh was also involved in the murder of the son of former MLC Amandeep Singh in 2009, he said.

Man stabbed to death; accused held

In another case, the police have arrested one person for allegedly stabbing a man to death at Virar in Maharashtra's Palghar district, officials said, reported PTI.

The body of the victim, Mehul Shah - a resident of Nana Nani Park in Manvelpada area of Virar east, was found dumped in the bushes near his house on September 21, a day after the incident, an official said, reported PTI.

The accused, identified as Aniket Vivek Gaikwad (30), is a local resident, he said, reported PTI.

After the body was found, Shah's uncle lodged a complaint at the Virar police station, alleging that an unidentified person had taken Mehul away on September 20 morning, after which he failed to return home.

Based on the complaint, the police launched a probe and found that the accused had stabbed Shah to death with a sharp weapon. With the help of eyewitnesses and inputs by the informers, the police traced the accused and apprehended him within four hours of registration of the FIR, he said.

Further investigation is on, the police said.
