Two women history-sheeters, notorious for picking pockets and lifting bags in crowded trains were arrested on Sunday for stealing Rs 20,000 from a woman who had come to purchase jewellery at the newly- inaugurated shop of Kalyan jewellers on Karve Road that very day. They were arrested on the basis of complaint lodged by Sunita Agarwal, who had come to buy jewellery at the shop. Officials of the Deccan Gymkhana police station said the two women were notorious for their modus operandi. They used magnets and needles to pick pockets and open bags to steal cash and other valuables they contained. &ldquo;At around 5 pm, the showroom was crowded and the complainant was busy looking at the ornaments on display. Suddenly she realised that the zip of her purse was open and on checking discovered that Rs 20,000 were missing from her purse,&rdquo; API Sunita Salunke of the Deccan Gymkhana police station said. Agarwal then called her brother Prashant for help, who came with a friend Shakeel Pathan, a policeman. They then started searching people. With the help of CCTV footage, the women were nailed and arrested. &ldquo;We recovered cash from them following which they were arrested for stealing,&rdquo; said Salunke. Officials had recovered a magnet and needles from their purse, which they had used to open the bag. Salunke said both women were remanded in police custody. u00a0
