Palghar police on Monday arrested a Nigerian woman and seized narcotics worth lakhs from her. Tulinj police held Kehinde Bolaji Bello, a 66-year-old Nigerian woman, in Palghar district, for possessing drugs worth almost Rs 6.4 lakh. On Monday, police raided Bello's home in Pragati Nagar, Mira-Bhayander on the outskirts of Mumbai, based on information they received, stated a report in PTI.

According to the report, during the operation, the Tulinj police uncovered and seized 56.2 grammes of MD and 7.5 grammes of cocaine from Bello. Meanwhile, at the Mumbai airport, gold valued at more than Rs 2 crore was taken by agents from the Mumbai Zonal Unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). They detained two passengers at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport who were arriving from Jeddah. When the passengers were searched based on a particular intelligence, 1 kg of gold dust in the wax that had been sewn into their undergarments was discovered.

"The DRI, Mumbai Zonal Unit officers detained two individuals who landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, from Jeddah on January 16, 2024, based on the precise intelligence they received. One kilogramme of gold dust in the form of wax, which had been expertly sewn into each passenger's undergarment, was found on each of the searched passengers, according to the DRI statement.

Upon closer inspection during a luggage search, three remarkably heavy mixer grinders were discovered. Gold chunks totalling around 2 kg were found concealed within the grinders after they were inspected. 4 kilos of gold that had been trafficked for Rs 2.59 crore were found.

It was discovered that two more people were waiting for the gold outside the airport, therefore the DRI operation was extended beyond the passengers. After setting up a trap and apprehending the beneficiaries, the authorities acknowledged their responsibilities. The sleuths added in their media release that the two passengers and the receivers are currently being charged under the Customs Act of 1962.

In another incident from Navi Mumbai, cops busted a racket of an inter-state gang of thieves and three people have been taken into custody by Navi Mumbai. The gang also stole valuables from cars.
