Unidentified persons burgled an ATM in Vasai city in Palghar district of Maharashtra and decamped with more than Rs 10 lakh cash, police told news agency PTI on Saturday.

The incident occurred on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The burglars sprayed the CCTV camera installed inside the kiosk before stealing the cash, an official told PTI.

A case has been registered and a hunt is on to identify and trace the burglars, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case against four persons for allegedly cheating a businessman of Rs 48 lakh in Thane city of Maharashtra, an official told PTI on Saturday.

The case was registered at the Naupada police station on Thursday on the basis of the complaint lodged by the 49-year-old victim, the official told PTI.

"Between December 2020 and January 2021, the accused made the victim invest in their trading company on the promise of lucrative returns. The victim invested Rs 57 lakh into it. But after his persistent follow-up, he was given back Rs 9 lakh of his invested amount, although the remaining Rs 48 lakh as well returns on his investment were never paid to him," the police official told PTI.

When he realised that the accused have cheated him, he approached the police and lodged the complaint, he added.

The accused, identified as Jasmeet Singh, Sharmin Ansari, Sandeep Gaikwad and Vivek Kadam, were booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (common intention), the police official told PTI.

In another case, the Navi Mumbai police in Maharashtra have claimed to have detected 14 cases of vehicle thefts with the arrest of three persons.

After receiving many complaints about theft of tempos within the limits of Kalamboli police station, cops worked on CCTV footage and other inputs and arrested one Anwar Rasulkhan Pathan (39) from Panvel.

Pathan's questioning led the police to Mannan Abdul Shiekh (36) from Jalna district and Firoz Mukkaram Sheikh (49), alias Mulla of Beed, said a release from the crime unit II of the Navi Mumbai police on Friday.

With the arrest of the three, the police detected 14 vehicle thefts committed in Navi Mumbai, Thane, Ahmednagar, Parbhani, Beed, Aurangabad, and Jalna, it said.

The police have also recovered 10 Ape tempos, one motorcycle and one tempo engine, the release said.
