A policeman allegedly shot his wife dead at their home in the northern Italian town of Cadoneghe and then turned the handgun on himself, officials said.
The policeman's colleagues became concerned after he failed to arrive for work.

They went to his apartment, where they found the couple's lifeless bodies inside, lying in a pool of blood.
The alleged murder-suicide is believed to have been a crime of passion, according to sources close to the investigation.
