Mumbai Police have filed a case against the organisers of the ‘Satyacha Morcha’, a joint protest march held by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), for allegedly violating prohibitory orders and forming an unlawful assembly, officials said on Saturday.

The protest, held in south Mumbai on Saturday, drew thousands of supporters despite restrictions on public gatherings. The rally was led by senior leaders including Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, MNS president Raj Thackeray, NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar and senior Congress leaders.

Young political leaders Aaditya Thackeray and Amit Thackeray were also present at the march along with hundreds of party workers.

According to police officials, the organisers did not obtain prior permission to hold the procession.

“They were clearly told that rallies and morchas were not allowed under the prohibitory orders. Still, they went ahead, which amounts to unlawful assembly and violation of police orders,” said a senior officer.

The Satyacha Morcha was organised to protest against alleged irregularities in the voters’ list, misuse of voter data and the “careless attitude” of the Election Commission. Opposition leaders said they had repeatedly raised the issue with the authorities but received no response, forcing them to take to the streets.

Police have registered a case under sections related to unlawful assembly and disobedience of official orders. An investigation is underway to identify the main organisers and coordinators involved in the violation.
