The Meghwadi Police have apprehended a notorious serial house burglar from a hotel in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and recovered stolen property worth approximately Rs 4.5 lakh from him.

The accused, identified as Karamat Ali Dost Ali Shaikh, 48, a habitual offender originally from Ahmedabad, had locked himself inside a hotel room and was nabbed after the police forcibly broke down the door.

According to the Meghwadi police sources, on June 24, he burgled the residence of Sadhana Subhashchandra Dwivedi in Ratnabai Chawl in Jogeshwari East. He decamped with several gold ornaments and cash, totally worth Rs 4.43 lakh, along with Rs 20,000 in cash.

The team scanned over 150 CCTV cameras, tracking the accused’s movement from Bandra Station to Mumbai Central, Shivdi, Dharavi, and eventually Bandra Terminus, where he boarded a train heading towards Udaipur.

“Using technical surveillance, the team traced the accused from Ahmedabad to Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh, and finally to Jaipur,” said an officer. “In Jaipur, he was found to have rented a vehicle and planned to return to Ahmedabad with his wife, but was tracked again. A trap was laid at Sindhi Camp bus stand, and he was arrested from a hotel from a room he had locked himself in,” said an officer.
