Khar police make claim while opposing Shree Jogdhankar’s bail plea, say he can study and appear for exams from jail

The Khar police on Monday opposed the bail application of Shree Jogdhankar, accused in the alleged killing of 19-year-old student Jhanavi Kukreja on New Year’s Eve. In their response to the bail plea, they also claimed that he threw Kukreja’s body down from the second floor to the ground floor of Bhagwanti Heights, after having dragged it down from the fifth floor.
Jogdhankar had applied for bail on medical and educational grounds. He was brought to court from Taloja jail. The court adjourned the hearing till March 2, when it will hear the bail applications of both Jogdhankar and the other accused, Diya Padalkar.

Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat said that although he is educated, Jogdhankar has still been found to have consumed narcotic substances, which is a serious matter. As far as his exams are concerned, he can study in jail and can give exams from there, the police said in their response.
Responding to Jogdhankar’s claim that he is being framed to shield someone else, the police said, “If this is true, why did he not inform the police of the incident and why did he lie to the doctor at Sion Hospital as to the cause of his injuries?” the police’s response said.
With Jogdhankar also claiming that he ended his friendship with the party’s organiser Yash Ahuja a year back, the police questioned why then he attended his party. While claiming that Jogdhankar threw Kukreja’s body down from the second floor, the police said they found a witness — a building resident — who heard a loud thud of someone falling down.
Kukreja’s family, through their lawyers Rizwan Merchant and Trivankumar Karnani, filed an intervention application opposing the bail.
Responding to police’s claims about Jogdhankar throwing the body, his lawyer Mahesh Vaswani said, “The police’s contention in their report is only reflecting a situation where they are themselves unsure as to what exactly happened. Their investigation reports are in conflict with the stance they have taken earlier.”
He added, “Jogdhankar needs to prepare for exams, attend lectures online for which a laptop or computer and internet are needed. So, an interim bail for three months is required.”
