Police have registered a case against two persons, for allegedly cheating a garment manufacturer at <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/thane-all" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane</a>'s Bhiwandi to the tune of Rs 55 lakh as they purchased goods from him but failed to make the payment.
According to the police, the complainant in the case is a Kamatghar resident in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/bhiwandi-all" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Bhiwandi</a>.
"One of the accused, who owns a fabric unit in Mumbai, and her manager purchased garments worth more than Rs 69.37 lakh on credit from the complainant between October 2022 and January 2023. But they paid only Rs 13.99 lakh to him so far," the official of Narpoli police station said.
"Despite repeated reminders, the duo failed to pay the balance amount to him and duped him to the tune of Rs 55.38 lakh," the police official said.
Based on the complaint, the police filed a case against them under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (common intention).
Meanwhile, in another incident, Police have seized brown sugar worth Rs 3.90 lakh from two persons at Virar in Maharashtra's Palghar district, and arrested the duo, an official said. The action against them was taken on November 2.
"Acting on a tip-off that some people were coming near a hotel in Manvelpada in Virar, the local police laid a trap. Around 10.30 pm, when two suspicious persons were spotted near the place, the police nabbed them," senior inspector Pramod Badakh of Crime Unit-III of Virar police said.
During their search, 17 grams of brown sugar valued at Rs 3.90 lakh was recovered.
Following the recovery of the drug, the police arrested the duo Amir Jakar Khan (35) and Haresh Manoj Patil (29), under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.&nbsp;
