Two persons have been arrested for <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-drugs-case-mumbai-police-seize-mephedrone-worth-rs-13-lakh-in-pydhonie-three-held-23649556" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">allegedly possessing mephedrone</a> worth Rs 11.6 lakh in Maharashtra&rsquo;s Thane district, police said on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, Ambernath police intercepted the accused, Fakruddin Nizamuddin Sheikh, 20, and Asif Mohammad Qasim Sheikh, 26, on Tuesday night, an official said, PTI reported.
The duo was allegedly carrying a chopper and an iron rod. During a search, the police team recovered 58 gm of mephedrone worth Rs 11.6 lakh from them, the official said.
A case has been registered against the two under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act, senior inspector Shabbir Sayyed of Ambernath police station said.

In a similar incident earlier this month, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-crime-koyta-sword-and-knife-attacks-leave-three-injured-across-city-in-separate-september-3-incidents-23648421" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Mumbai Crime Branch</a> arrested two people in Versova, Andheri West, for allegedly possessing and selling heroin, and seized 323 grams of the narcotic substance worth Rs 64.6 lakh.
The action was carried out by the ANC's Kandivali Unit, following a tip-off from secret informants. The accused were arrested during the operation and booked under relevant Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
According to the police, 167 grams of heroin worth around Rs 33.4 lakh was recovered from the sling bag of one accused.
The second accused was allegedly found carrying 156 grams of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 31.2 lakh, in a sling bag.
The total seizure amounted to 323 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth Rs 64.6 lakh.
Police also seized an electronic weighing scale, sandbags, mixer utensils, a halogen bulb and two mobile phones from the accused.
The operation was conducted as part of a special drive ordered by the Mumbai Police Commissioner to identify and take action against those allegedly involved in the smuggling, purchase and <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-two-held-with-79-gm-mephedrone-in-kalyan-west-drug-valued-at-rs-15-8-lakh-23648332" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">sale of narcotics in Mumbai</a> and its suburbs.
Following the seizure, the ANC's Kandivali Unit registered Crime No. 82/2026 at Versova Police Station.
Both accused were arrested on September 4.
