A case has been registered against five persons, including an 85-year-old man, for allegedly assaulting a woman court official during a flat foreclosure procedure in Maharashtra's Thane city, police said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at a housing society in the Mahagiri area, an official said.

According to the police, a woman court commissioner was acting on the orders of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thane, to take possession of a ground-floor flat belonging to Chandrakant Vishnu Jadhav (49) after he defaulted on a loan taken from a finance firm, reported PTI.

"The court commissioner, accompanied by legal managers from the finance firm and a police contingent, was executing the court's order, but Jadhav refused to hand over possession," the official said, reported PTI.

Four other accused persons, including a lawyer and Jadhav's family members, allegedly assaulted the court official and obstructed the action, he said.

Based on a complaint, a case has been registered against Chandrakant Jadhav, his wife Pallavi, father Vishnu Sahadu Jadhav, advocate Ashwini Bhosale and her son, the official said, adding that a probe is underway into the incident, reported PTI.

Two jail staffers held for accepting bribe in Thane district

Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two staffers of a jail in Maharashtra's Thane district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1,500 to allow a man to visit an undertrial prisoner, an official said on Tuesday, reported PTI.

The ACB on Monday caught Satish Tanaji Bhosale (55), a prison subedar, and jail constable Sharad Nana Panpatil (39) posted at Aadharwadi Kalyan District Jail, while accepting a bribe from the complainant, inspector Sunil Karote of Thane ACB said, reported PTI.

The complainant had gone to the jail on February 25 to meet his friend, who was lodged as an undertrial prisoner, he said.

"The staff on duty in the interview room demanded Rs 1,000 since the complainant was not a relative of the inmate," Karote said, reported PTI.

Bhosale demanded a bribe of Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 from the complainant to facilitate the meeting with his friend, and the jail staffers subsequently settled for Rs 1,500, he said, reported PTI.

A case has been registered against both the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Karote said.
