Two persons were held for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in Thane district, an official said on Wednesday, reported news agency PTI.


Police were on the lookout for a third accused after two persons were held, said Superintendent of Police (Murbad) Jagdeesh Shinde, reported PTI.


The girl is a resident of Waghivali village, reported PTI.


One of the accused had promised to marry her, she told police, reported PTI.

The accused also extorted money from her by making public her videos shot in intimate situations, as per the FIR. Further probe is on, reported PTI.

In another incident, a man received injuries after a person fired at him from a revolver following an altercation between them at an orchestra bar in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said, reported PTI.

The incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday at the bar located in Dombivli area, they said, adding that four persons have been arrested in this connection, reported PTI.

A quarrel took place between the victim and one of the accused over some issue following which the latter fired at him from the gun, an official from Manpada police station said, reported PTI.

The victim suffered injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment, reported PTI.

Within a few hours, the police arrested the assailant and three other persons for their involvement in the incident and booked them under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, senior police inspector Ashok Honmane said, reported PTI. A probe was on into the incident.

Meanwhile, a total of 45 persons were apprehended and nearly Rs 6.45 lakh was seized after the police raided a gambling den in Maharashtra's Thane city, an official said on Wednesday, reported PTI.

The illegal activity was going on inside a club in the city's Kopri area on Tuesday night, the official said, reported PTI.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shivraj Patil, the crime branch carried out the crackdown and found that 43 persons were playing 'teen patti' inside the club, reported PTI.

The 43 gamblers and club manager Sandeep Patil and owner Babu Nadar were apprehended under the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act. The police also recovered Rs 6,43,890 from there, he added, reported PTI.
