The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/thane-civic-official-in-bhiwandi-held-for-taking-rs-25-lakh-bribe-23634519" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Anti-Corruption Bureau in Maharashtra's Thane has arrested</a> two persons for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 77,000 from a woman to secure admission for her daughter at a government-aided school, an official said.
The ACB on Monday laid a trap and caught the accused accepting a bribe outside the school in the Rabodi area, he said.
"The accused, Fatima Ansari and Chaitanya Pradhan, demanded Rs 1.2 lakh to secure admission for the complainant's daughter in Class 6 at the school. Excluding the official school fee of Rs 22,700, they accepted the remaining bribe amount of Rs 77,300, and were caught red-handed by the ACB," Inspector Santosh Navalgi said.
A probe confirmed that the accused were demanding money under the pretext of influencing the school's principal, he said, adding that a case will be registered against the duo under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
<h2>Home Guard dept official held for demanding Rs 30,000 bribe from jawan in Nagpur</h2>
In another case, an official from the Home Guard department was caught allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a jawan for recommending his reinstatement into service in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/thane-fake-loan-call-centre-busted-in-bhiwandi-eight-booked-for-fraud-23636439" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Maharashtra's</a> Nagpur, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said on Tuesday.
Pradeep Vijay Nagpure, a zonal officer of Home Guard Zone-5, was taken into custody on Monday, an official said.
According to the ACB, the complainant had served as a Home Guard for nearly 20 years. He had been removed from service due to low attendance at parades, but was reinstated earlier this year.
The complainant alleged that Nagpure demanded Rs 30,000 to recommend his reinstatement to senior officials. The ACB verified the allegations last month.
The ACB laid a trap on Monday, but the accused official became suspicious and did not accept the money. His demand, however, was established during the probe, and he was taken into custody.
<h2>Sub-registar booked for accepting Rs 10,000 bribe in Akola</h2>
Meanwhile, the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/thane-st-scrutiny-panel-officer-held-for-taking-rs-2-5-lakh-bribe-23620793" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)</a> has arrested a sub-registrar for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for reducing stamp duty on a plot of land in Maharashtra's Akola district, an official said.
The ACB caught sub-registrar and collector of stamps Kiran Chaudhary (52) red-handed while accepting a bribe, Deputy Superintendent of Police (ACB) Akola Milindkumar Bahkar said.
He said that the complainant visited the accused's office several times to determine and pay the outstanding stamp duty on a plot in the MIDC area, and the latter allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 to reduce the amount.
A case has been registered against the accused official under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and a probe is underway, the official said.
