A 26-year-old woman IT professional was shot dead by a male friend with whom she had a relationship. The incident occurred at a lodge in the Hinjawadi area of Pimpri Chinchwad in Maharashtra’s Pune district on Saturday.

Quoting an official, newswire PTI reported that police received information about the incident on Sunday morning. “The motive behind the killing is yet to be determined.”

According to a senior police official, the accused has been identified as Rishab Nigam and he was detained in Mumbai. As per preliminary information, the accused and the victim, both hailing from Uttar Pradesh, were in a relationship.

The deceased worked in an IT firm in Hinjawadi and the accused lived in UP.

"The accused had come from Uttar Pradesh and was staying in a lodge in Hinjawadi where he called the deceased. As per preliminary information, on Saturday night, he shot the woman and fled. We came to know about the incident this morning," Deputy Commissioner of Police Bapu Bangar said.

The man was traced and detained in Mumbai and was being brought to Pune for further investigation, he said. "The motive is yet to be clear. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC at Hinjawadi police station and further investigation is on," the official said.

Meanwhile, a missing man was found murdered after his dead body, tied to a stone, was recovered from a well in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said on Saturday.

According to newswire PTI, the man identified as Chandraprakash Sureshchandra Lobanshi, 32, had been missing since January 20.

Locals at Davdi village in the Dombivali East area alerted the police after spotting a man's body in a well on Thursday, the police official said on Saturday.

The official said the body was tied to a stone and had wounds on the back and neck caused by sharp weapons. It was later identified as that of Lobanshi.

The Manpada Police in Dombivali area of Thane on Friday registered a murder case. Investigations are underway to identify those who committed the murder and the motive behind the crime, said the station house officer of the police station.
