Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Friday took a sharp swipe at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over his earlier promise to “adopt” Nashik city, questioning the BJP leader’s commitment to the city’s development.
Addressing a rally ahead of the Nashik Municipal Corporation elections, Raj said leaders who had claimed to have adopted the city in the past were never seen there again. The remark was a direct reference to Fadnavis’s 2017 poll promise to personally oversee Nashik’s development.
Raj also criticised the state government’s proposal to cut trees ahead of the Nashik Kumbh Mela scheduled for 2027, saying the environment was being sacrificed in the name of development.
The rally was politically significant as Raj shared the stage with Uddhav Thackeray, marking their first joint public address in Nashik since formally announcing their political reunion.

Urging voters to support the MNS and Shiv Sena (UBT), Raj cautioned against believing what he called false promises. “Vote sensibly to make Nashik the best city. Ensure the victory of MNS and Sena UBT candidates, or you will regret it later,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, Uddhav Thackeray launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies, accusing them of misrule. He said the Nashik rally was special for him. “I have addressed several rallies before, but today I am happier because my brother Raj is sharing the stage with me,” he said.
Uddhav also questioned the BJP’s commitment to Hindutva. “The BJP’s Hindutva exists only during elections. Otherwise, they would not dare to cut trees in a city associated with Lord Ram,” he said.
Referring to recent ticket distribution by the BJP, Uddhav said loyal party workers were being sidelined in favour of newcomers. “I genuinely feel bad for long-time BJP workers who are being ignored,” he added.
