After the inauguration of the Atal Setu bridge last week, motorists began treating the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) as a picnic spot, prompting the concerned Mumbai Police to take to social media and announce that the bridge is not meant for unauthorised stops and photo sessions.
Meanwhile, the police registered the first FIR against an auto rickshaw driver who entered the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) despite two and three wheelers being restricted on Atal Setu, an official said.

Mumbai Traffic Police, through their office X account and other accounts on social media platforms, posted violation pictures illustrating the mistakes people were making.
A message on X stated, "We agree that Atal Setu is definitely 'worth a watch,' but it's also illegal to stop on it & click photos. You will face an FIR if you stop on MTHL," accompanied by a picture reading "Atal Setu Not A 21.8 km long picnic spot."
Strictly prohibiting vehicle stops on the bridge, Mumbai Traffic Police emphasized the potential dangers. Pravin Padwal, Joint Commissioner of Police, Mumbai Traffic Police, mentioned, "Stopping the vehicle on the bridge is highly restricted. Our patrolling vehicles with officers and other staff are continuously patrolling and taking action under the Motor Vehicle Act for any traffic violations."
Rules that motorists should follow while using the Atal Setu Sewree Nava Shiva Bridge:
While entering and exiting, the speed limit should be 40 km/hr.
While traveling on the bridge, the speed should be 100 km/hr.
Speedometers on the way will issue a challan for exceeding the speed limit.
Motorists should not stop on the Atal Setu bridge for selfies or pictures.
Parking or waiting on the bridge is completely restricted.
There are signboards on the bridge indicating not to stop, though in sign language. Authorities will be requested to install boards with proper writing.
Motorists with roof windows should not open them on the bridge to avoid accidents.
Motorists should follow lane discipline.
Bikes and auto-rickshaws are not allowed on the bridge.
Heavy vehicles should keep left on the road to avoid accidents.
People should pay attention when getting down at the Mumbai side to watch the signboards, as there are three exits leading towards Colaba, Freeway to Wadala, and Sewree, respectively. Following these rules will ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic on the Atal Setu Sewree Nava Shiva Bridge.
