On the eve of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Election 2026, the distribution of ballot boxes and polling-related material was completed across the city on Wednesday, marking the final stage of pre-poll preparations. Voting will be held on Thursday, January 15, with the counting of votes scheduled for the next day.
The civic administration and election machinery have completed all the arrangements to ensure that the polling process is conducted smoothly, transparently, and peacefully. On Wednesday, January 14, ballot boxes and election materials were distributed in an orderly manner at various divisional centres across the city. A large number of polling officers, staff and support personnel reported for duty from early morning.
Election material, including ballot boxes, voters’ lists, essential polling documents, stamps, seals, indelible ink, identity badges, and instruction manuals were distributed to polling teams after thorough verification.
Separate election kits were prepared for each polling station to ensure error-free voting, BMC said in a statement.
Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Dr Ashwini Joshi visited the election material distribution centre at Shahaji Raje Bhosale Sports Complex in Andheri West and reviewed the process. She inspected the arrangements to ensure that the distribution was being carried out in a timely, systematic and disciplined manner. Dr Joshi also reviewed preparations for vote counting, which will take place at the same venue for wards 59 to 71 under the K-West division (Andheri West, Oshiwara, Juhu, and Versova).
BMC Election 2026 will be being for a total of 227 wards under the Mumbai civic body’s jurisdiction. The election process is being conducted under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner and District Election Officer Bhushan Gagrani and under the leadership of Dr Joshi. As part of the process, 23 returning officers (ROs) from the deputy collector cadre have been appointed.

Strong rooms and designated counting centres have been finalised under each RO’s jurisdiction.
BMC Election 2026 will be conducted at 10,231 polling stations across Mumbai.
To ensure smooth execution, 64,375 officers and staff have been deployed. All the personnel have completed election-related training and reported at the 23 divisional centres at their scheduled time to collect polling material.
Senior election officials and observers closely monitored the distribution process to ensure that there were no lapses. Polling staff were briefed on their duties, election procedures, rules and emergency protocols.
After receiving the election material, all polling teams departed for their respective polling stations. With the completion of material distribution, the election machinery is fully prepared for Thursday’s polling, officials said.
Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani appealed to citizens to participate in the democratic process and cast their votes fearlessly and enthusiastically.
To maintain law and order on polling day, the police administration has put in place a tight security arrangement, with special attention given to locations having more than 10 polling stations.
Meanwhile, several senior civic officials carried out field inspections across the city. Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr Joshi also visited polling centres at Vakola Municipal Garden and Jamanadhar Agarwal School in Jogeshwari East, issuing necessary instructions to officials.
Joint Municipal Commissioner (Assessment and Collection) Vishwas Shankarwar inspected the election material distribution centre at Jamboree Maidan in the G-South division (Lower Parel, Worli, Prabhadevi, and Mahalakshmi) and visited polling centres at Sharadashram School and a BMC school in Dadar West. Assistant Municipal Commissioner Gajanan Bellale inspected polling arrangements at multiple locations in Ghatkopar and its nearby areas.
