Photographer Andre J Fanthom draws attention to melting glaciers, horrors of global warming 32 Fahrenheit is no run-of-the mill photo exhibition. Not only does each photograph at this exhibition, inaugurated yesterday at the Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute of Architecture and Environmental Studies, Juhu, tell a story of the disappearing Alaskan glaciers, but through his pictures Bhutan-based photographer Andre J Fanthom also has a message to convey.

Threat It was the splendour of Alaska that drew Fanthom, but as he captured the glaciers he learnt of the horrors of global warming. u00a0 "Every time I visited the glaciers, I could see the scars the weather left on the pristine rocks. Each photograph, I took, I cringed. Though I considered myself fortunate to have seen the beauty of the glaciers, I thought people need to acknowledge the threat that global warming poses and hence I brought this exhibition to Mumbai," said Fanthom, who earlier held a similar exhibition in New Delhi. Fanthom set up this exhibition in the city with the help of Beth Brownson, political officer of the US consulate. u00a0 "For ages, art has helped motivate people to become more concerned. Showing people the beauty of nature, or the disgrace of pollution has helped teach generations about the need to preserve and protect our environment," said Brownson. The exhibition is on till September 18.
