After registering less than 400 fresh Covid-19 infections on Tuesday for the first time in the second wave, the city saw a significant rise in infections and Covid-19 fatalities on Wednesday. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 430 new cases and 13 deaths were reported across the city on Wednesday.
Mumbai’s test positivity rate (TPR) saw a marginal drop and was 1.48 per cent on Wednesday. The city reported the second wave’s lowest TPR on July 16 at 1.26 per cent. After registering a TPR of above 2 per cent on June 27, it has been less than that since then.

The city’s doubling rate has improved and was 1,097 days on Wednesday.
Of the 13 deaths reported in the city, five patients had comorbidities, eight deaths were of patients above 60 years of age and four deaths were of those in the 40-60 years group. On June 8 and July 7, the city had reported single-digit Covid-19 fatalities.
The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent and 560 people were discharged after full recovery on Wednesday.
The state’s new Covid-19 cases saw a significant rise at 8,159. The Covid-19 fatalities also went up and 165 were reported on Wednesday.
The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.09 per cent as 7,839 people were discharged after full recovery. The state has 94,745 active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a significant rise in new cases, with 1,451 reported on Wednesday, including the ones in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Panvel saw 136 fresh cases and Raigad 324. Thane reported 77 new cases while Navi Mumbai saw 107 and Vasai-Virar 84. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 10 Covid-19 fatalities on Wednesday. Raigad reported five deaths, highest in the MMR after Mumbai. The Thane Municipal Corporation and Navi Mumbai saw two deaths each.

No vaccinations today
With vaccine shortage crippling the city’s inoculation drive, the BMC said that it will not be able to carry out vaccinations today. The drive will now start on Friday again. While the civic body has received a confirmation that vaccine stock will arrive in the city late on Wednesday night, civic officials said that it would be difficult to distribute it among 280 centres in the city within hours. The corporation will receive a total of 61,200 doses, which will hardly be enough for the next two days, said sources.
