Maharashtra is gradually emerging from a concerning phase of COVID-19, with the latest figures offering encouraging signs. According to data released by the State Public Health Department on Sunday, only eight new COVID-19 cases were reported across Maharashtra.
Officials confirmed that all new patients are exhibiting mild symptoms and none require intensive care. Since January this year, the state has conducted 33,157 COVID-19 tests, of which 2577 samples have returned positive.
Despite a sudden spike in infections during May and June, Maharashtra has seen 2472 recoveries so far this year, bringing the recovery rate to an impressive 95.92 percent. The number of active cases currently stands at just 64, all of whom are stable and showing only mild symptoms.
A closer look at the daily figures shows that of the eight fresh cases reported on July 6, Mumbai accounted for five, Pune Municipal Corporation recorded two, and Kolhapur registered one case. Mumbai has seen the highest number of infections since January, with a total of 1012 cases. The city faced a significant rise with 435 cases in May and 551 in June, sparking concerns among residents and health authorities.
Health officials attribute the recent decline to proactive measures taken by civic bodies and hospital administrations, which helped contain the surge seen in the last two months.
Maharashtra has reported 41 COVID-related deaths so far this year. Notably, 40 of these patients had underlying health conditions, while one fatality was linked to another illness, according to the Public Health Department.
Authorities have reassured citizens that testing and treatment facilities remain fully functional and widely accessible across the state. They have urged people to stay calm, follow health guidelines, and report any symptoms without delay.
Officials continue to emphasise vigilance, encouraging residents to cooperate with public health efforts and avoid unnecessary panic as Maharashtra maintains its focus on keeping the situation under control.
