Covid-19: Mumbai’s cases below 400 for first time in second wave

After a consistent rise in test positivity rate (TPR) for three consecutive days, the city saw the figure drop marginally to 1.59 per cent on Tuesday. Daily Covid-19 cases and deaths, too, declined. But the fresh infections dropped below 400 for the first time in the second wave.


According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s updated data, the city registered 351 new cases and 10 deaths. Among the 10 newly confirmed Covid-19 deaths, nine patients had comorbidities, six were senior citizens, three were in the 40-59 years age group.


The doubling rate continues to be on an upward trend and was 1,063 days on Tuesday. The recovery rate in the city has been constant at 97 per cent since increasing by 1 per cent recently. A total of 525 people recovered and were discharged on Tuesday. 


The daily Covid-19 cases across the state rose slightly to 6,910, but casualties went up significantly at 147. The fatality rate has also increased and was 2.09 per cent on Tuesday, when 7,510 patients were discharged after recovery. Currently, the state has 94,593 active cases.  

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) witnessed a marginal dip in new cases with 1,034, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Raigad with 259 and Panvel with 73 reported the maximum number of new cases in the MMR, after Mumbai.

Thane reported 51 new cases, Navi Mumbai 59 and Vasai-Virar 47. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 29 Covid-19 fatalities, with Raigad reporting the highest at 23. Panvel reported four deaths and Navi Mumbai two.
