The civic officials said that four houses were declared dangerous and evacuated as a precautionary measure after a house wall located adjoining them collapsed in the early hours of Monday in Thane city, reported news agency PTI.

No one was injured in the wall collapse incident at Wagle Estate in Thane (W), they said.

Though no casualties were reported, four houses were declared dangerous and evacuated as a precautionary measure, according to Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Disaster Management Cell chief Yasin Tadvi, reported PTI.

Tadvi said the incident took place at around 1.30 am, where the wall of a house owned by one Shakuntala Yadav collapsed onto the wall of an adjacent house owned by Pandurang Padekar, and debris also fell into a nearby drain, reported PTI.

"Upon inspection, it was found that the remaining structure of the collapsed house and three adjoining houses were in a dangerous condition. Immediate preventive steps were taken to avoid any accident," he said, reported PTI.

Tadvi added, "We immediately evacuated all four houses as a safety measure and advised the affected residents to temporarily take shelter with their relatives living nearby. This is to prevent any injuries in case of further structural failure."

Further structural action and permanent remedial measures will be undertaken by the Wagle Ward Committee and the Civil Construction Department, he informed.

State-run utility Mahavitaran's officials were called in to inspect for any electrical hazards near the affected homes, the civic officer added.

Wall of vacant house collapses in Thane; no casualty

In another incident, a wall of an unoccupied house collapsed in Maharashtra's Thane city in the wee hours of Monday, officials said, reported PTI.

No casualty was reported, they said.

The wall of the single storeyed house located in Lokmanya-Savarkar Nagar area crashed at 1.58 am, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said, reported PTI.

A local resident informed the disaster management control room about the incident, he said.

The house was nearly 20 years old and lying closed and unoccupied for the last seven to eight years, the official said, adding it was not listed among dangerous structures identified by the municipal corporation, reported PTI.

"The wall of the house has fallen and some part of the remaining house is in a dangerous condition," Tadvi said, reported PTI.

After being alerted, local police, disaster management team, fire brigade, civic and power officials reached the spot.

"For safety reasons, the area has been barricaded. The one side wall of the house had collapsed, and the remaining structure was assessed to be hazardous. The dangerous part of the structure was demolished using a JCB machine," the official said, reported PTI.

Authorities have urged residents to remain alert during the ongoing monsoon season and to report any signs of structural vulnerability in their neighbourhoods.
