Goregaon’s SRV Hospital doctors save young construction worker after iron rod pierces his armpit and exits from his neck. He was brought in by two men who worked with him at the site along with their supervisor,” said Dr Nikhil Gokhale, one of the surgeons from SRV Hospital on the man’s surgical team.

A 20-year-old worker at an under-construction site at Goregaon fell off a second floor slab on Monday morning and onto an iron rod attached to the slap below. He was rushed to SRV Hospital in Goregaon. He was brought in by two men who worked with him at the site along with their supervisor,” said Dr Nikhil Gokhale, one of the surgeons from SRV Hospital on the man’s surgical team.
“The man had a close shave as the five feet long and one-inch-thick iron rod entered his axilla (arm pit) and exited from the suprascapular region (shoulder). Luckily the rod did not pierce any of his vital nerves nor neck, spine or head. We were also able to smoothly remove the rod without him suffering much blood loss,” said the doctor. The man was shifted to the ICU on Monday after the surgery and later shifted to the general ward on Tuesday once he regained consciousness and could do all hand movements.
“He will be kept in the hospital under observation for the next three days and his CT results are awaited. CT scan was done to confirm that there is no nerve damage as some nerve damages can be missed by naked eyes and in such severe cases it’s better to conduct medical examinations to be rest assured,” said Dr Gokhale. The hospital administration informed that since the accident happened on site, the entire hospitalisation amount will be paid by the construction company.
