The BMC has invited bids for a project for which it does not have permission. The civic body’s priority sewerage tunnel project does not have a clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) since it involves clearing a small patch of mangroves in Malad.

The project, part of the Rs 2,000-crore Mumbai Sewerage Disposal Project (MSDP), will have a 6.6-km underground sewerage tunnel running between Borivli and Malad. Civic chief Ajoy Mehta, along with Additional Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee, made a presentation to the MoEF last month in New Delhi regarding the same.
