In two recent cases, the police have found criminals looting people by scaring them with toy guns. In a joint operation, the western region police squad and Vile Parle police arrested five of the six accused who broke into the office of Gurukul Online Learning Solution on August 9. Two of the six accused were carrying guns, of which one turned out to be fake.

The accused had received a tip that there were diamonds worth Rs 22 crore in the store. The accused barged in and used the toy gun to threaten those around, and did not use the real weapon. They looted the store and snatched away mobiles and chains from those present at the store.

The arrested were identified as Arputraj Palraj Nadar, 32, Akbar Sheikh, 35, Akhtar Baig, 32, Rajesh alias Raju Chawdhary, 28 and Ahmed Ali Shah, 25. The police are still on the lookout of the main accused. In the other incident, the Bandra Kurla Complex police arrested 23 year-old Sanjay Chatiyal who tried to rob a jewellery shop armed with a toy gun.

Chatiyal barged into Sonal Jewellers in Bandra Kurla Complex on Friday but was nabbed by two police constables who were on patrolling duty. "In the recent two cases, toy guns have been used. Investigations are still on," said Satyanarayan Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police of Zone 9.
