A low-pressure area has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Indian Ocean near the eastern equatorial region. Weather observations indicate that the system developed around 5:30 PM on January 5, according to the reports. 

Meteorological sources say the low-pressure area is expected to become well-marked and intensify further within the next 24 hours. Authorities are closely monitoring the system, and updates will be provided as the situation progresses.


Meanwhile, several parts of Odisha are likely to experience a cold wave. Night temperatures across the state are expected to drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next four days. In the past 24 hours, the cold has intensified in several districts, including hilly and plain areas of Kandhamal and Koraput.



The Meteorological Centre has forecasted that interior and southern Odisha will continue to face cold conditions. In addition to severe cold, dense fog is expected in many areas of the state.

Over the past 24 hours, the Boudh district reported dense fog, reducing visibility to as low as 20 metres. Similar conditions were observed in Balangir, Koraput, and Kandhamal districts.

The weather department has warned that dense fog is likely to persist during early morning and morning hours across several districts of Odisha over the next four days.

Hazy conditions are expected in the morning, with mainly clear skies in the city and suburbs by the afternoon.

According to the IMD Mumbai, the minimum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 21.3 degrees Celsius at Colaba and 20.0 degrees Celsius at Santacruz. No rainfall was reported at either location, with both stations recording 0.0 mm of precipitation.

Hazy conditions are expected in the morning, with mainly clear skies in the city and suburbs by the afternoon. 

As per the Sameer app, Mumbai’s air quality index (AQI) on Tuesday is 124, which falls in the moderate category. This level may cause breathing discomfort for people with lung disorders, asthma, or heart conditions.
