The Ulwe police have booked a man for allegedly assaulting his live-in partner in Ulwe after she expressed her desire to move to another house. The incident took place on Friday (September 19). According to the Ulwe police, the 24-year-old victim, a bar dancer in Panvel, has been staying with the accused, Rupesh Vilankar, 40, for the past eight years.

On Friday afternoon, the woman had gone to see a flat in Sector-23 in Ulwe; however, when she returned home, an enraged Vilankar allegedly began hurling abuses at her. The argument quickly escalated, and Vilankar thrashed her mercilessly. Following the incident, the victim rushed to Ulwe police station and lodged a complaint. A case has been registered against Vilankar under sections related to assault and verbal abuse, said police.

Senior Police Inspector Arjun Rajane from Ulwe police station said, “The accused was upset after learning that the woman was searching for another house. He confronted her, abused her, and later assaulted her. Both had been living together as partners for the last eight years despite their age gap (16 years). Neighbours claimed that the couple often quarrelled over personal issues.” “We had heard them fighting before, but this time it turned ugly.

The woman was crying loudly. Soon after, we heard another round of shouting and banging,” said a building resident. While the woman is undergoing medical examination, police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

Police said that live-in relationships, especially involving bar dancers, are often marred by financial and emotional disputes. SI Rajane told mid-day, “We have recorded the woman’s statement. The accused has been booked, and further probe is on.” As of Sunday, Vilankar has not been arrested, but police teams are keeping a close watch.
