A 'chhajja' (overhang) of a ground-floor flat in a 30-year-old building collapsed in Thane city, an official said on Friday, reported news agency PTI.

No one was injured in the incident that occurred on Thursday at the three-storey Swami Apartment in the Lokmanya Nagar area, he said, reported PTI.


The structure is listed in the category of dangerous buildings, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell, reported PTI.



He said the civic staff visited the premises to assess its condition. The collapsed section was deemed structurally unsafe, and the "hazardous elements" were demolished immediately by the authorities, Tadvi said. "No evacuation was required," he added, reported PTI.

Officials have not shared their plan for further action concerning the building.

Two labourers killed in wall collapse

In another incident, two labourers were killed after a wall caved in at a construction site here on Wednesday afternoon, police said, reported PTI.

The incident took place near Gorelal Chowk where a shop was being constructed, said an official.

Akshay Pache, resident of Birsi, and Jitendra Bahe, resident of Dangorli, were working at the site when suddenly a side wall caved in, burying them under the debris, he said, reported PTI.

While Pache was killed on the spot, Bahe succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment, the official said, reported PTI.

Man critical as portion of two-storey house collapses

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man was critically injured when a portion of a two-storey house collapsed in Antop Hill area on Tuesday, officials said, reported PTI.

The injured, Mohammed Hussain Shaikh, is undergoing treatment at Sion Hospital, reported PTI.

The incident occurred in the Bhartiya Kamla Nagar area around 2:15 PM, an official said, reported PTI.

This is the second such incident reported in the metropolis within three hours.

Earlier in the day, a portion of the gallery of a two-storey building collapsed in the Andheri area. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident, according to officials, reported PTI.

The incident was reported at 11.30 am in P&T Colony on Sahar Airport Road.
