In another decision for the local bodies that will go to polls any month soon, the state government has increased the number of corporators to be appointed through nomination. The Maharashtra cabinet took a decision in this regard on Tuesday. A cabinet note said the number of nominated representatives needed to be increased in order to improve the quality of work in municipal bodies.

Henceforth, the number of nominated representatives will be whichever is less, 10  or 10 per cent of the house strength. At present, five corporators are nominated as per the elected strength of parties. “To help the city administration, individuals having experience of urban governance are appointed. Such individuals can be used to make a qualitative difference to the local body activities. The decision has been taken in view of the utility of such eligible persons,” said a CMO release.
