A fire broke out in the electric duct of a 20-storey highrise building in Kharghar area of Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra on Wednesday afternoon, civic officials said, reported the PTI.
Nobody was injured in the incident, but as a precautionary measure around 400 residents were evacuated safely as thick smoke filled the residential premises.
The incident occurred at Gitanjali Heights building located in sector 34, a Fire Brigade official said, according to the PTI.
He said that the Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the spot around 1:30 pm after receiving an emergency call.
The blaze was doused shortly after an hour at around 2:45 pm.
Fire breaks out at cluster of warehouses in Diva, guts six scrap godowns
Meanwhile, in an another incident, at least six scrap godowns were gutted after a fire broke out at a cluster of warehouses in Maharashtra's Thane district, officials on Wednesday, reported news agency PTI.
No person was injured in the incident, they said.
The blaze erupted at 8.53 pm on Tuesday in a godown at the complex located at Chowdhari Compound on Khardi Road in Diva and quickly spread to five other warehouses, all owned by different persons, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said, reported PTI.
After being alerted, three fire engines were rushed to the spot. Personnel from Daighar police station and the regional disaster management cell also reached the site.
The fire was brought under control by 1.30 am on Wednesday, Tadvi said, adding that six godowns were completely gutted, reported PTI.
No harm was caused to any person, he said.
Cooling operations were on and the cause of the fire was yet to be determined, the official said.
In a similar incident last week, a fire broke out at a scrapyard in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official had earlier said on May 31.
No one was injured in the fire that erupted around 11 pm on May 30 at Bablu Compound in the Shil area, officials from Disaster Management Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation had earlier said.
The fire, which was confined to five godowns in the scrapyard, was put out by firefighters around 5.15 am on Saturday, they had said.
An investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause of the fire, said officials.
