The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-shinde-camp-slams-oppn-claims-epidemic-of-disinformation-on-projects-being-spread-against-cm-23253077" rel="nofollow">Eknath Shinde</a>-led <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/maharashtra-all" rel="nofollow">Maharashtra </a>government on Monday ordered the Comptroller &amp; Auditor General (CAG) to investigate Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) affairs in the past couple of years.
The decision comes ahead of the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/bmc-all" rel="nofollow">BMC </a>elections.
The investigation will cover the measures taken during the last two years and into the allegations of corruption and irregularities in awarding various contracts without tenders, the IANS reported. These included setting up of several Covid Care facilities and procurement for the Jumbo field hospitals during the pandemic years, according to an official statement from the CMO.

"The investigation is not ordered out of vendetta... It's to get at the truth. Let the probe be completed and the real picture will emerge," Shinde told the mediapersons later, the news agency report said.
Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have alleged scams in construction of and purchases for Covid facilities and the Jumbo hospitals.
