Tells officials to address public issues instead of wasting time over protocol during his visits; the minister has asked the officers to utilise the time to address citizens’ needs and ensure efficient governance
Additional Chief Secretary Vikas Kharge welcomes Chandrashekar Bawanukle on Saturday, in the presence of CM Devendra Fadnavis
Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has instructed the divisional commissioner and district collector not to waste time following protocols during his visits. The minister has asked the officers to utilise the time to address citizens’ needs and ensure efficient governance.
On Saturday, while addressing a state-level revenue conference in Nagpur, Bawankule said, “Stop accompanying revenue ministers everywhere. Instead of following protocol, utilise the time for citizens and public service.” The two-day conference was inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and it was in this meeting, Bawankule unveiled a vision that aims to modernise the revenue department by 2029.
In order to ensure that officials stay connected with people and resolve their complaints, the minister has announced that he will personally monitor things at the ground level. “Every month, I will spend four days visiting districts and tehsils to review the situation,” the BJP MLA from Kamthi Assembly constituency stated, hinting to all his officers that he means business when it comes to bringing citizens closer to authorities.
Further, citing rising litigations, the minister suggested that focus should be on resolving smaller disputes at the local level itself. “Why should matters that can be resolved at the local level reach higher levels or courts for the matter?” Bawankule questioned.
Last week, the minister announced the formulation of a committee to chalk out a plan for strengthening farm and access roads across the state. The committee will be headed by Bawankule, while ministers of finance and planning, employment and rural development will be key members of the committee. Besides ministers, a few legislators and administration officials, too, will be part of this committee.
From auto driver to most important portfolio
Hailing from a poor family, Chandrashekar Bawanukle started his career as an auto-rickshaw driver, but his connect with people and dedication towards helping society made him reach topmost posts like the revenue minister of Maharashtra (considered the second-most important or sought portfolio after chief minister) and even head the Maharashtra unit of the BJP.
In fact, in Bawankule’s tenure as the BJP state president, the party achieved the target of enrolling 1.5 crore new members in Maharashtra during the enrollment drive. The central party leadership congratulated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Bawankule and then working president Ravindra Chavan (now BJP state president) for achieving the unprecedented organisational success.
