The police on Thursday said that seven persons were killed and two others seriously injured after a car collided with a motorcycle in Maharashtra's Nashik district, reported news agency PTI.

The accident took place late Wednesday night near Dindori town in the district, they said.


The police received an alert at 11.57 pm about the incident, which took place near a nursery on Vani-Dindori road, an official said, reported PTI.



When the police reached the spot, the two vehicles were found fallen in a small canal alongside the road, the official said, reported PTI.

Seven people were killed and two others suffered serious injuries, the police said.

After being alerted, police and other agencies reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.

Woman killed in hit-and-run in Thane

In another incident, a 21-year-old woman was killed after an unidentified vehicle rammed into her scooter in Maharashtra's Thane city, traffic police said on July 13, reported PTI.

The accident occurred at Nagla Bandar around 10 pm on July 12, an official said.

He said the victim, Ghazal Tuteja, a resident of Ghodbunder Road, was riding a scooter when an unidentified vehicle rammed into it from behind, reported PTI.

The woman died on the spot, and personnel from the Kasarwadavli police station sent the body for post-mortem, the official said, reported PTI.

A case has been registered, and a probe is underway to trace the errant vehicle, police said.

Two dead as tempo traveller falls into gorge in Ladakh

Meanwhile, a passenger vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge near Gumri in Kargil district of Ladakh on Wednesday, leaving two dead and 15 others injured, reported PTI.

The tempo traveller was en route to Srinagar from Drass when the accident occurred here around 5:45 am.

A joint rescue operation by police, army and local volunteers was launched immediately after the accident, reported PTI.

Two persons were found dead on the spot and 15 others were rescued in an injured condition and shifted to the hospital, the officials said, adding that the condition of eight of the injured was stated to be serious.
