The Thane district civil <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/delhi-crime-senior-citizen-injured-in-brawl-over-parking-in-rajauri-garden-dies-in-hospital-23320162" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">hospital</a> in Maharashtra has appealed to citizens to come forward and donate blood saying it is facing a serious shortage of blood, reported the PTI.
An official release by the Thane district civil hospital on Friday said its stock of blood will last only for a week, attributing it to a drastic drop in donors. The hospital said its stock of A-positive blood was quite low, as per the PTI.
Civil Surgeon Dr Kailas Pawar appealed to the citizens of Thane, which is also the home turf of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/Eknath-Shinde-articles" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde</a>, to donate blood at the hospital's blood bank and save lives. The blood bank is operational 24x7, he said, according to the PTI.
Several poor patients are operated upon at the hospital every day and blood for the surgeries is provided through their blood bank, he said, adding that the facility is getting transformed into a super-speciality hospital, the news agency reported on Friday.
Meter room on fire in Thane
Meanwhile, at least seven meter boxes in a Thane residential apartment were charred after a fire broke out in the meter box room. According to the Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell, the blaze was reported in Shivkrupa Society in the city's Naupada area.
According to the officials, the fire broke out in the meter box which is located on the ground floor of this ground plus seven structure.
The fire did not just damage the meter boxes, it completely charred the electric wiring in the room as well.
The firemen were able to extinguish the fire with the help of residents and the situation is now under control. However, no one knows what caused the fire.
The officials from the disaster management cell said that firemen had arrived to the spot with one jeep and one fire engine and a pick-up van was also present. The personnel from MahaVitaran, a government-run electricity provider, and disaster management cell staff were present at the site too.
The incident comes a day after a similar incident was reported from the Ghodbunder Road area of the city.
