Maharashtra’s COVID-19 numbers exceed 47,000

The number of COVID-19 positive persons again rose on Friday in the state with 47,827 new cases, taking the total tally of Maharashtra to 29.04 lakh cases. The number of deaths has also been increasing as COVID-related deaths recorded in the state were 202 on Friday taking the total to 55,379 in all. The city saw a rise with over 8,000 cases again, and 20 deaths.



The city reported 8,844 new cases. The MMR crossed the 15k mark with a single day record of 15,321. The Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivali Corporation recorded a spike in positive cases with 1,411, 1059 and 1,174 respectively in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.


The state’s recovery rate now stands at 84.62 per cent with 24,126 patients discharged. The total number of active COVID patients in the state is currently 3,89,832. The state saw 2.01 crore laboratory samples collected till date since March 2020 and out of these 29.04 lakh have tested positive with 14.41 per cent positivity ratio.

Mumbai’s recovery rate stands at 84 per cent while the doubling rate has dropped due to increase in cases and now stands at 46 days. The city’s overall growth rate has increased rapidly in the last one week and currently stands at 1.46 per cent. The total count of positive cases recorded so far now stands at 43.21 lakh. The number of tests carried out so far is 41.74 lakh. The active cases now stand at 58,455 in the city.

The mortality rate of the state is steady at around 1.91 per cent. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,371. These deaths are the cases where patients were positive and  tested negative but later died due to other complications.

According to the state government’s data the highest number of deaths were recorded in Nagpur at 24. MMR recorded a total of 66 death cases, including Mumbai. While the state records showed 19, the BMC records state 20 deaths in Mumbai. The civic officials said out of these 20 deaths, 16 patients were suffering from other ailments and 17 were senior citizens.
