Six months after his retirement, Sachin Tendulkar has found his way into the state board&rsquo;s textbooks. From this academic year, Std IV students will learn about the achievements of the cricketing legend, and also find a list of his world records in a text book.

The education department has incorporated the information in the language books of English and Marathi medium. &ldquo;Tendulkar is not only a national figure, but also holds international recognition. He has taken the country to a global platform. Our aim is to inform future generations about this legend,&rdquo; revealed Rajendra Darda, minister of state, education.

The decision was taken by the education department following numerous requests from various activist groups and cricket fans, a day after Tendulkar retired from international cricket, after playing his 200th Test in November last year. Officials of the state education held a series of meetings to decide the appropriate subject and class where they could add a chapter on the cricketing legend.

One of the groups, Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS), also met the education minister with the same request. &ldquo;Sachin is a legend, and after his retirement, it would be sad if our future generations remain unaware about his existence and achievements. We therefore requested the education department to incorporate a chapter on him, and are glad that they have agreed,&rdquo; said Chetan Pednekar, vice-president of MNVS.

After numerous requests from cricket fans, the Maharashtra education department has included a collage on the legendary Indian batsman, who retired last year, in the Std IV language books
