Disappointed by the Supreme Court verdict making National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) mandatory and scrapping Mahrashtra Common Entrance Test (MH-CET), over 200 parents of medical aspirants held a silent protest near Vile Parle railway station.

These parents were seen holding placards and posters that read &mdash; &lsquo;India playing with future of medical students&rsquo;, &lsquo;Study 2 years&rsquo; curriculum in 2 months. Is it justified?&rsquo;, &lsquo;We want MH-CET&rsquo;.
The silent protest continued for almost two hours. One of the protesting parents, Ajay Gupta, said, &ldquo;Parents have together and shown great support. We hope that our efforts are fruitful and we manage to make the authorities realize our plight. It is not possible to prepare for NEET in just two months. Not only does it have a completely new syllabus, but also books are not available in the market. While our children have started preparing for NEET, we parents will continue our struggle to bring back CET.&rdquo; The medical entrance test this year has brought with itself bountiful confusion and stress. The NEET, which was discontinued two years ago, was brought back and CETs organized by different states were cancelled.
Though parents are happy with the concept of one national-level entrance test as it will reduce pressure on students, but they want it to be implemented from next year as aspirants have already spent two years preparing for CET and have also appeared for it on May 5.
Voicing a similar opinion, Dr. Heena Bhatt, a parent, said, &ldquo;Students have already begun preparing for NEET that will be held in July and they are starting from the scratch. My daughters&rsquo; coaching begins at 7.45 am and ends at 3 pm every day. The decision makers have to understand these issues. We welcome single national test, as it will reduce pressure on students but it cannot be implemented suddenly.&rdquo;
Though most parents are fighting tooth and nail against the SC verdict, some have decided to accept the decision while hoping for a miracle. Sangita Shah, another aspirant&rsquo;s parent, said, &ldquo;I have just accepted the decision and so I am preparing my son to remain calm and continue studying for NEET. More confusion in this matter will only add to the stress of the students, who are already not in a great shape since the verdict. But it would certainly be great if somehow CET continues at least for this year&rsquo;s admissions.&rdquo;
