The skid trap opposite Lucky Restaurant in Bandra West, where SV Road meets GR Varasakar Road, has finally been removed. Traffic cops in the area had previously told mid-day that on average, three accidents would occur daily due to the metal lid, which was placed to cover an underground water chamber plagued by multiple leakage issues. Following extensive coverage by mid-day that brought the issue to the notice of authorities, there finally seems to be relief for those passing the area.

A traffic police officer stationed at the Lucky Junction told mid-day, “The civic body finally took action a few days ago and removed the metal lid. Since then, we have seen no accidents happening on the road, compared to the three-to-five we used to see daily over the last 10 months.”

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) H West ward’s X account also replied to a post from a citizen who wrote about the condition of the water chamber, and how often there was water leakage at the site due to Metro construction work in the area. The ward’s official handle on December 6 responded, saying, “We have forwarded the complaint to the department concerned,” and added a photograph showing work being carried out to seal leaks in the water chamber.

Mushtaq Ansari, a local who had been complaining to BMC about the issue for the last 10 months, told mid-day, “The main issue with the road was the constant water leakage, which has been resolved. The metal lid came as a secondary issue, adding to the problem. After my tweets and mid-day’s stories, the BMC finally took action after 10 months. This issue could have been resolved much earlier, but better late than never. We are happy now that we don’t face the risk of skidding and falling.” mid-day contacted the BMC H West ward office for a comment, but did not receive a response till the time of going to press.
