What began as a morning outing ended in tragedy at Silver Beach near Godrej Gate in Juhu on Friday, when two youths were swept away by strong sea currents. While one of them was rescued by an on-duty lifeguard, the other, who had been missing since the incident, was found dead later in the night on Friday. The missing person was recovered by local fishermen and Juhu Police at around 10:30 pm.
An update received by the authorities on Saturday confirmed that Vighnesh was recovered around 10:30 pm on Friday by local fishermen and Juhu Police. Soon after he was recovered by the fishermen and the police, he was immediately taken to Cooper Hospital. Unfortunately, just after reaching the hospital, he was declared dead by the attending medical officer.
According to officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the incident occurred around 8:30 am on August 1. As per the information received by the authorities, two boys ventured into the sea, approximately 200 meters from the shore, when they were overpowered by the rough monsoon sea. However, Rajkumar Govind Subba, 22, was rescued by lifeguard Jitendra Tandel from Drishti Marine even before emergency services arrived.
Unfortunately, the second individual, identified as 20-year-old Vighnesh Murgesh Devendram, remained missing despite a massive joint search operation by the Mumbai fire brigade, police, and BMC ward staff. The search was halted by the fire brigade at 1:46 PM due to the rising tide.
Authorities have reiterated warnings urging the public to exercise extreme caution near the shoreline during the monsoon, when sea conditions are particularly dangerous.
This incident has once again highlighted the need for heightened vigilance and awareness, especially among beachgoers during rough weather.
