After enraging green activists, the Rs 12,000-crore Coastal Road project is raising a stink and has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Accumulated water, possibly from sewage pipes, has formed a dirty pool at the construction site near Amarsons Garden, Breach Candy and residents going for morning and evening walks have had to face the brunt.

Residents claim that water being let out into the sea via sewage lines is getting stuck due to reclamation work. Chief engineer of Coastal Road department, Vijay Nigot, said, "The issue is not because of the Coastal Road work." He claimed that the problem comes under the purview of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Sewerage Operation Department.
